  8. providing ease of use, security, and reliability. This is accomplished by
  9. providing the following stored procedures: .BL .LI Backup Schemes define what,
  10. when, and how frequently to backup. .LI Media Handling provides tape labelling,
  11. media recycling, and reporting. .LI Restore Handling is based on the backup
  12. schemes. .LE These procedures are defined by a System Administrator and can be
  13. invoked in a controlled way according to a calendar-based backup scheme. This
  14. makes it possible for a nonexpert System Administrator to manage the complexity
  15. of a system backup, and limits the risk of human errors dramatically. A
  16. full-screen, menu-based user interface provides the status of the backup
  17. process. Individual files and/or entire directories can be recovered. Tape
  18. management duties (movement, cleaning, disposal) are reported daily. Life cycle
  19. management tracks tape usage, and schedules the cleaning or disposal of all
  20. individual tapes, thereby reducing tape faults via preventative maintenance and
  21. disposal.
